Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and evacuations in Sydney and surrounding areas of New South Wales, Australia. The New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES) has responded to nearly 2,000 calls for help in the last 24 hours.
Evacuation orders are in place for several areas, including Picton, Narrabeen and the Hawkesbury River regions. Some of the worst affected areas include Wollongong, which received almost 200mm of rain overnight, and Penrith, which experienced its heaviest rainfall on record.
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that flooding remains a concern, despite some clearer skies.
