A barefoot grandmother has chased down a thief who allegedly stole her handbag from a pub table and tackled him to the ground.

The elderly woman was at the Pimpama Tavern on the Gold Coast about 8.30pm on January 19 when the thong-wearing man allegedly swiped her bag.

Incredible footage shows her pursuing the man to a nearby car park and pulling him to the ground by his collar and putting him in a headlock.

The accused robber eventually let go and retreated to his ute – with the grandmother then walking back towards the bar triumphantly with her bag in hand.

The struggle left the grandmother, who suffers from emphysema, with cracked ribs, bruises and cuts to her arm.

She said she had ‘no idea what she was thinking’ when she chased the man down after he pinched her bag, according to 7News.
