Disgraced former player agent Ricky Nixon has stepped out in footy gear just days after being accused of selling dodgy AFL memorabilia.

Nixon was seen sporting what appeared to be an authentic AFL hoodie as he wandered about Port Melbourne – just outside of Melbourne’s CBD – before hitting it over the bridge to a house in Newport.

The 58-year old was just days ago accused of peddling dodgy AFL gear off his social media site.

Victoria Police on Wednesday confirmed detectives were looking into the alleged deception.

‘Victoria Police is investigating the sale of football merchandise purporting to be signed by football players,’ it told The Age.

‘The deception was reported to police earlier this month and the investigation remains ongoing.’

Speculation over the legitimacy of Nixon’s wares first aired on Melbourne radio when a punter rang into 3AW’s Rumour File with a tip.

Word was Nixon had been selling suspicious footballs purported to be signed by the  Demons’ premiership winning team.

The Demons trounced the Bulldogs in last month’s AFL Grand Final in what was a historical win.

So desperate were trapped Melbourne fans to watch the match, two of them have since ended up in prison after illegally jumping the border to attend.

Fans reported to have bought the signed Demons footballs off Nixon have claimed schoolboy errors were made with the signatures.

The Age reported forward Charlie Spargo had signed his name with a No.8 despite wearing No.9.

Another fan claimed Max Gawn’s autograph featured the No.13 despite him wearing the No.11.

It is understood police have taken DNA evidence from packaging on the suspect merchandise to see if it matches that of Nixon.

Up to 20 diehard fans are understood to have been caught up in the feared scandal.

Nixon has been sought by Daily Mail Australia for comment.

The AFL and Melbourne Football Club have urged fans to only purchase memorabilia from official providers.

Nixon has long sold footy memorabilia from his social media pages.

The former AFL player, who played for St Kilda and Hawthorn, maintains strong connections with some of the game’s greatest ever players.

He is also no stranger to scandals.

Nixon had become the most powerful player agent in the game through the 1990s into the 2000s, representing the game’s top talent, when he was brought down in spectacular fashion.

The hotel-room incident marked the start of a rapid decline for Nixon, who has admitted he became heavily dependent on alcohol as his business collapsed.

Since then he has popped up in the press over various court appearances.

In 2019 he started mobile medical clinic Vital Health Checks, visiting offices and worksites in a van to give busy workers 20-minute physical and mental checks.

He had his own mental health issues in October 2019 when he was taken to hospital after making suicidal threats.

In January, Nixon was filmed arguing with a mum on a Melbourne tram.

The video showed Nixon telling the mother of a suicide victim that his death ‘might have a lot to do with you’.
