One of Australia’s most lavish penthouses that has hosted Hollywood stars and world leaders is on the market for the first time in history.

The Brisbane apartment, which has been home to Australian businessman and restaurateur, John Kilroy, 69, for the past six years, is the epitome of luxury and captures sweeping views of the city from every room.

Sprawled over two levels, the opulent penthouse has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, two chef’s kitchens, African safari-themed living spaces and a private rooftop terrace with a swimming pool, cocktail bar and fruit garden.

Eighteen citrus trees heaving with lemons and limes grow there, alongside pots of herbs and nuts which add a welcome touch of nature to an otherwise concrete block in the sky.

A private lift and feature staircase connect the roof to the apartment, where one of the most striking features is the exquisite imported marble.

Mr Kilroy reportedly flew an artisan stonemason from Italy to Australia to install the custom Carrara marble by hand.

Other standouts include a gym, massage room and a spacious office which could be converted into a fourth bedroom.

At 625sqm, the apartment is almost three times the size of the average Queensland home, which was 230.8sqm in 2018, according to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Mr Kilroy grew up on a farm in rural Western Queensland before starting a storied career in the hospitality industry which has seen him buy pubs, restaurants and event venues for over 40 years.

He retired in 2020 with the sale of his famous steakhouse, Cha Cha Char, and is now in the process of building his retirement pad in Hervey Bay, three and a half hours’ drive north of Brisbane, realestate.com.au reported.

Listing agent Jason Adcock, who is overseeing the sale of the penthouse for luxury realtor Adcock Prestige, said ‘there’s nothing better in terms of view’ in Brisbane.

‘It’s perched on the top of the cliffs overlooking the Story Bridge, the river and the city. It has it all, 360 degree views,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
