According to the Sleep Foundation, you should aim to deep clean your mattress every six months and use a mattress protector.
Home cleaning experts claim one of the quickest and cheapest ways to clean your mattress is to strip it and sprinkle it with baking soda for a few hours before vacuuming it clean.
Baking soda will eliminate odours by drawing out dirt, moisture and dust mites, leaving your mattress fresh and sparkling clean.
How to deep clean your bed with baking soda
1. Strip bed and vacuum the mattress.
2. Mix baking soda with essential oil and sprinkle all over the mattress – leave for several hours.
3. Wash linen, sheets and pillow cases.
4. Vacuum the baking soda mixture and make the bed.
5. Finish with linen spray.
