A woman is in critical condition after she was allegedly strangled by a man before he took her young child.
Police were called to an apartment in Southport on the Gold Coast on Saturday night where they found a woman unconscious.
They allege a 34-year-old man had assaulted the woman before taking her 11-month-old child.
The baby boy was the subject of an ‘amber alert’ by police and was later found unharmed while the man was charged.

Emergency services were called to the Como Crescent home at about 5pm after neighbours complained of a disturbance.
Officers arrived to find the 25-year-old woman unresponsive. She was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The man was arrested in Oxley just after midnight, with the baby also being located. He was taken to Crestmead Police Station.
They will allege the man strangled the woman before taking the young child with him.
A grey Mazda CX9 was seized by police and they are currently examining the vehicle as part of their investigations.
The man was charged with grievous bodily harm and strangulation.
He had his bail opposed and will appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Monday.
