Freedomroo – Married At First Sight 2021 premiere: Snooty bride Beck rejects husband

Meet Married At First Sight's worst bride ever: Perth business manager Rebecca 'Beck' Zemek, 27, sneered at her husband Jake Edwards, 32, throughout their wedding on Monday night's episode

It’s the television event of the year, and Married At First Sight’s season eight premiere certainly didn’t disappoint on Monday night.

The episode kicked off with plenty of drama before the first two couples even said ‘I do’, with a pair of outspoken brides clashing at the hen’s night.

But the most dramatic moment came at the wedding of Perth business manager Rebecca ‘Beck’ Zemek, 27, and Melbourne charity CEO Jake Edwards, 32.

High-maintenance Beck, a former WAG who appears to have modelled her entire look on Rebecca Judd, was immediately disappointed by her affable groom.

‘Are you serious? First impressions weren’t quite what I expected,’ she whinged to producers after meeting her husband at the altar.

A disgruntled Beck explained that she thought Jake had sexually objectified her as she walked down the aisle.

She said: ‘I thought I would see, you know, this happy amazing smile, but I got more of a ‘ooh she’s hot kind of face’. He is looking at me like I am sex on a stick.’

Wedding guests were a little confused, however, as Jake hadn’t looked at Beck in a lewd manner and instead told her quite respectfully: ‘You look beautiful.’

But Beck later insisted she was ‘put off’ by her his initial reaction, and said he made her feel like a ‘piece of meat’.

As the couple nervously exchanged vows, the surgically enhanced socialite looked for reassurance from her bridesmaid, who mouthed: ‘He’s cute!’

Jake’s vows were cut short in the edit as producers switched to an interview of Beck saying she wasn’t impressed by her husband biting his nails.

She went on to say she was also unhappy with the fact he wasn’t wearing a tie.

‘I just feel that on your wedding day, it’s a day to be extremely formal, and I noticed he had his buttons undone showing his tattoos. My parents would not approve of that at all,’ she snapped.

Beck was left humiliated at the reception when Jake’s friends said they were worried she was too ‘high maintenance’.

‘Can you help me to the toilet? I need to get out of this dress,’ she asked her bridesmaid, desperately looking for an excuse to leave.

‘If I was on a date right now, I probably would be paying the bill and walking out,’ Beck then told producers.

Unaware his bride had left the venue, Jake returned to the table and spoke to his friends about their brief chat with Beck.

Jake confessed he had his own concerns about his wife, but said he was trying to stay optimistic.

‘If I was on a date right now, I probably would be paying the bill and walking out,’ Beck told producers

‘Obviously there is a barrier but I won’t know until I talk to her more about it, but that’s my job now as a husband to help her work through those things. I just want to be there when she’s ready,’ he said.

After storming out of the reception, Beck told her friend she was upset because she didn’t want to feel like a ‘trophy bride’.

Her pal then told her she may have judged Jake too harshly and convinced her to go back inside.

Jake later pulled his bride aside and asked her how she was feeling, before handing her his tuxedo jacket.

Despite her frosty demeanour earlier in the day, Beck slowly warmed to Jake and tried to explain to him why she was so guarded.

Got me wrong: Jake was surprised to learn Beck thought he'd looked at her lasciviously, telling producers: 'Wow, to hear her sit there and say I treat her like a piece of meat. Clearly, she thought I was another one of those guys'

‘When I walked down the aisle when you turned around, it just went straight into my box of looking at me like I’m a piece of meat. There’s more to me than that,’ she said.

Jake was surprised she felt that way, telling producers: ‘Wow, to hear her sit there and say I treat her like a piece of meat. Clearly, she thought I was another one of those guys. I work hard at not being that person.’

He went on to tell Beck that while she was very attractive, he was looking for more than just a pretty face.

‘I need someone who’s fun, spontaneous, outgoing, creative and loves to do something on the fly – all of those things, and you certainly have elements of it. It’s just about seeing where it goes,’ he said.

After taking the time to get to know Jake, Beck admitted she had misjudged him at the altar.

‘Jake and I have turned a corner, I’m feeling better now than I was this morning about this,’ she said after their chat.

‘I know I was harsh but now I’m ready to give him a chance and that’s probably something I haven’t done in the past. I want to show Jake I want to give this my absolute best.’

Meanwhile, things went more smoothly for Canberra radio host Bryce Ruthven and workplace trainer Melissa Rawson, who hit it off as soon as the bride made her way down the aisle.

‘Wow… you’re alright. You’ll be fine. I’m like you, don’t worry,’ the 31-year-old DJ said with a laugh.

A confused Bryce then asked Melissa’s father, who had walked her down the aisle, ‘What do we do? Is that my job or your job?’ before he prematurely took off his bride’s veil.

‘Straight away I am thinking [the] experts have done a good job. The fact that he made eye contact and kept it, I instantly feel relaxed,’ Melissa, also 31, said afterwards.

As the newlyweds sat together at their reception, Melissa said she was thrilled to be able to skip the usual steps of courtship, after going 12 years without a date.

Bryce didn’t seem bothered by her admission, telling her: ‘People are different. I’m not judging you on it.’

She replied: ‘I’m very particular about [whom I date]… and I just don’t want to get in a relationship just because. When I meet somebody, they’re the one.’

Things briefly became tense later on when Bryce told Melissa he’d ended an engagement just six months ago.

‘It’s a little bit of a red flag that Bryce was engaged only six months ago,’ she said, but insisted she would put aside her concerns and try to get to know her husband properly.

‘You’re super easy to talk to. I’ve never met [someone] I thought, ‘You know what? I can literally sit here and have a conversation with you all night,” Bryce said.

‘When I first saw you, [I was] over the moon,’ Melissa added, to which Bryce responded: ‘Really? I’m a bit kind of taken back by that. Like, I think you’re gorgeous. I’m not going to lie.’

Bryce told his bride he was instantly attracted to her, saying: ‘When I turned around, the nerves went straight away so I was like, ‘You’re here and look how lucky I am here.’ So it’s there from my point of view.’

Coco quickly did the maths in her head and blurted out: ‘Seventeen and 33? Mate, call the judge! I’m sorry, that’s a bit red hot, isn’t it?’

She then insulted the mother of two by whispering, ‘Can we get a check on that?’

Samantha told producers that Coco’s comments were completely uncalled for, saying: ‘Coco is disrespectful person. She’s the most outspoken. It’s not appropriate.’

The Canberra-based property developer added: ‘Whatever she wants to serve to me I’ll serve it back. You know bring on the tennis match.’
