A 91-year-old great grandfather couldn’t believe his luck after a kind-hearted stranger paid for his groceries at the Coles register when he couldn’t find his wallet.

Once the groceries were packed, Ken, from Brisbane, Australia, quickly realised his wallet was missing and thought it had been stolen, but to his surprise he was met with generosity from the stranger behind him.

‘That’s okay, Merry Christmas,’ the anonymous woman said and paid his $115 bill.

Ken is familiar with the Coles store and has lived in the area for close to 50 years, and when he couldn’t find his wallet he called his granddaughter Amanda who lives five minutes away.

When she arrived she found Ken accompanied by a Coles employee and the anonymous woman.

‘You could tell he was quite stressed and he said ‘where are you? I’m at Coles and I think someone has stolen my wallet’,’ Amanda, 43, told 7News.

‘I quickly thanked her and offered to pay her back. But she was so polite and refused. She told me “don’t worry about it, Merry Christmas” and just left.’

Amanda was blown away by the kind offer knowing the grocery shop wasn’t a small bill she was left ‘in tears’.

Thankfully the wallet was later found in Ken’s car on the floor of the driver’s seat close to the pedals.

‘Everyone is so quick to whinge about how bad people are, but this just shows there are people out there who do care,’ she said.

‘I didn’t get a chance to say thank you and how grateful we are for your kindness,’ the post read.

She hopes to one day thank the unknown woman again in person to give her flowers.
