Ben Fordham recalls the ‘meltdown’ he once had with Rebecca Maddern that left him storming off in ‘a huff’ – after her shock departure from Nine










Ben Fordham has paid tribute to former his Ninja Warrior co-star Rebecca Maddern after she sensationally quit Nine. 

The radio king took to Instagram to share a story about how the pair had an argument on set – only to quickly resolve it.  

Ben began his tribute by saying he was enjoying a few drinks with Rebecca amid the news of her leaving the network.

‘Bye Bec – Having a few drinks with Rebecca as we farewell her from Channel 9,’ he began. 

‘We were thrown together on Ninja Warrior and became instant buddies. She said ”if you’re married to Jodie you can’t be that bad” and we just hit it off.’

Ben went on to say the pair had an argument on set before resolving it with minimal fuss – illustrating Rebecca’s no-nonsense attitude.

Ben signed off by calling Rebecca ‘super talented’ and saying she would be good at anything she put her mind to.

In a shock turn of events, Rebecca walked away from Channel Nine after almost six years at the network at the weekend.

The star, who hosts Australian Ninja Warrior and Weekend Today, exited following a lengthy contract negotiation.

According to the Herald Sun, Maddern and Nine ‘were unable to agree to terms on a new deal’.

‘Bec has been a great contributor to Nine since she joined us and we wish her well for the future,’ Nine said in a statement.  

With Maddern out at Nine and Ben Fordham exiting his role as co-host of Ninja Warrior earlier this year, the show will be looking for two brand new hosts.

The mum-of-one joined Nine in 2016 after almost 15 years at rival Channel Seven.  

Her first major role was as the co-host of the AFL Footy Show, before joining Australian Ninja Warrior in 2017. 

She was chosen to host Nine’s tennis coverage in 2018 before becoming the Weekend Today co-host in 2019.

She welcomed her first child, a daughter named Ruby in 2018, and has been open about her joy of setting a good example for the youngster as a working mum.

‘What’s nice about her being three now though is that she might just be old enough to watch a little bit of Australian Ninja Warrior,’ she told Who magazine in June.

‘This will be the first year I can show her the series, so I’m really excited,’ she added.
