England’s T20 World Cup campaign got off to a stunning start as they thrashed West Indies by six wickets after bowling them out for just 55 in 14.2 overs in their tournament opener in Dubai on Saturday.

‘It’s as good as it gets,’ England captain Eoin Morgan said after the game.

‘To start our campaign like that, all credit to our bowling unit.’

Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four wickets for just two runs in 2.2 overs, while Moeen Ali and Tyman Mills took two wickets apiece.

Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan, meanwhile, chipped in with one each as the West Indies began the defence of their trophy in dismal fashion.

Woakes and Ali set the tone from the off, removing the opening pair of Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons for a combined nine runs.

After a steady opening over had returned seven runs, Lewis tried to hit Woakes over his head, only for Ali to produce a stunning catch over his shoulder as he sprinted back from mid-off towards the boundary.

Simmons followed shortly afterward, caught in the deep by Liam Livingstone as he tried to smash the Worcestershire all-rounder out of the park.

The latter and Mills then struck in consecutive overs to get rid of Shimron Hetmeyer and the dangerous Chris Gayle.

With 13 runs, Gayle was the only West Indian batter to reach double digits as Eoin Morgan’s men reduced the defending champions to 37-5.

Jordan and Mills then accounted for Dwayne Bravo and Nicholas Pooran, before Rashid picked up the remaining four wickets.

The Windies made some early inroads in England’s batting line-up themselves, reducing them to 39-4 when Akeal Hossain took a screamer to remove Liam Livingstone.

However, Morgan joined Jos Buttler in the middle to steady the ship as England ultimately sailed to a comfortable win.
