UFC lightweight fighter Luis Peña was arrested last weekend in Florida for allegedly punching a woman with a closed fist.
The 28-year-old Italian-born MMA star was charged with battery with intent to cause bodily harm and domestic-violence battery, according to Broward County (Florida) court records. Both charges are misdemeanors.
‘[Peña] did actually and intentionally strike [the victim] in the face multiple times with a closed fist and continued to strike [the victim] while she was on the ground,’ according to police.

As reported by the Miami Herald, Peña was in an ‘intimate relationship’ with the woman for more than a year.
On Saturday, deputies were called to the scene of an altercation in Deerfield Beach, which is north of Fort Lauderdale. Once on the scene, they spoke with several people shortly before arresting Peña.
The woman suffered hand and wrist abrasions, according to police, and there was ‘an alleged bite mark to her left knee region.’ It’s not known how that occurred.
Peña is being held at Broward County jail in Fort Lauderdale on $6,000 bond.
He was previously arrested in Florida last June for robbery by sudden snatching, battery and criminal mischief following a fight with his ex-girlfriend, according to Palm Beach County records. The robbery charge has since been dropped, and his ex-girlfriend has requested that the other charges are as well, according to the Miami Herald.
Peña (9-3), who has not fought since April, is due back in court in connection with the June charges on October 28.
